We decided for beagle (characteristics, feeding, environment)

Beagle is funny, beagle is happy. Beagle is affectionate, playful, energetic. This breed is the most popular, especially when we think about family pets. Everyone who knows one will say this is a smart dog. They just have that smart look they wear all the time. Even a puppy stays beside you, follows you, and gives so much love. And love is the only thing they expect in return.

They come from England and were created to be hunters. So you better prepare to catch the little puppy over and over again, for this is the kind of a dog that may run off. But you shouldn’t be sad about that, it’s just that their nature is independent.

  • Beagle food.

The most important thing is always food. First 4 weeks their food is mother’s milk. After that, they are introduced to real food. In that period, they eat 3 times per day. Although they will always eat, you should bring some discipline and set meal times. After 6 months, meals come down to 2 times per day. It is very important to respect your own rules. Especially if you want to train your dog! They absolutely adore food, and treats can be used for training them (make sure they can still eat). Also, if you decide to cook for your pet keep in mind that it is not allowed to bring milk and sweets on the table. You can cook broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, rice, chicken breasts, turkey, lamb. They also enjoy some fruits (blueberries, raspberries, mango, banana).

Of course, you need to give vitamin C and calcium supplement to a very small dog (ask your veterinarian for instructions).

  • Where should your dog live?

If you are not sure where should your dog live, make a list of things you like and dislike about both options (house and backyard). If you let a very small beagle in your house, you better not be too clean. It will take some time to learn potty training and what is forbidden.

They also tend to make a mess if you leave them alone when sad (howling is a sign of sadness). Sometimes it seems to them it’s been a long time since you left, so they make a mess because of boredom and sorrow.

If they are in the possibility, they will follow you everywhere and jump on you constantly. You will never be alone again. When you leave your bedroom opened, the room will be so loved that you’ll never have to sleep alone (and your bed will never be lonely too).

Beagle is an adventure kind of dog, and dog behaviour specialists advise the yard. Kind nature allows them to make friends outside. And since they bark very loud, they are probably not the best house dogs.

Is there any child in the house? Your baby beagle will smell a child and then your baby will always have a friend. They love children the most and are very gentle, patient, and tolerant.

Did you know that Snoopy is a beagle? Isn’t he the cutest looking ironic dog? We decided to get our girl Medi because of our son. At first, we were thinking about buying a small animal. But both of us hate animal torture. So normally, we needed to buy the best human friend- a dog.

And I wasn’t even started to think when my husband said: “beagle, I’ve always wanted to have a beagle”. That exact night we went for our girl and took her home. She was 3 months old when we got her, now she’s 3 and a half. We started to love her momentarily.

The first night she couldn’t fell asleep. She was making noise, so I got up and sat on the sofa near her. Two minutes passed by and she was on my lap, howling sadly. I started to sing maybe instinctively, and she fell asleep. That was the fastest time I put a baby to sleep in my whole life!

We have not yet started with a solid dressage, but we are introducing the rules slowly.

    Beagles are beautiful and very smart and playful dogs. Great choice!

    We have a Stabyhoun, which is a very regional breed in the Netherlands. They are hunting dogs as well, so they take a lot of effort and time. But in the end, it will be worth every single drop of sweat.

    Your post brought back some cherished childhood memories. I had a beagle when I was a child and have always wanted one since. I remember when mine would howl and I’d have to snuggle with him, lol.

    Such a gorgeous puppy. Beagles are beautiful dogs, and have such lovely temperaments. There are always lots of beagles rescued from research labs who are up for adoption too.

    I love beagles but we opted for a lab. We have a pure black lab named Shadow. He’s much bigger than a beagle but not quite as loud or excitable. Still, he can’t be trusted to be inside home alone or we risk losing our window blinds.

    What an adorable puppy!!! My mom had a beagle mix about 10 years ago and I loved that dog so much! TomTom was the sweetest dog!

    I love dog, they are the best friend of a person, how horrible it is when a world without dogs. I don’t have a beagle but instead I own a chihuahua, she is very smart and super super cute, I love her so much. Your post is so helpful to me. Thanks for sharing!
